Substitute Teachers Needed

The Ionia ISD and local public school districts utilize the services of PCMI to employ substitute teachers in our schools.

Applicants hired as PCMI substitute teachers will be eligible to work in all participating districts.  Accepting assignments in various districts will be facilitated through an automated substitute placement system.  This will allow substitutes to accept assignments via phone or web. More information regarding this automated system is presented at the district orientation meeting.

If, after submitting all your application materials you are hired by PCMI, a PCMI representative will inform you that you are ready for assignment and refer you for an orientation meeting at the Ionia ISD.  

If you are referred by PCMI for orientation you will need to schedule this with the ISD’s substitute coordinator Sue Harvey, who can be reached at (616) 527-8071 Ext 1269. Upon successful completion of orientation, you will be eligible to sub throughout the county or in the districts that you prefer.

Minimum Qualifications
To meet the minimum qualifications in all districts within the Ionia ISD, you must have completed 90 college credit hours at an accredited university, accumulated on a single transcript with a minimum GPA of 2.0.  Applicants with the minimum qualifications of 90 credit hours or an expired teaching certificate are required to obtain a temporary permit from the Michigan Department of Education.  The cost of this permit is $45.00 per school year.  It is not necessary to obtain this permit prior to submission of your application.  More instructions will be provided regarding the procurement of this permit at a later point in the hiring process.  Applicants that hold a current Michigan teaching certificate do not require a temporary permit.

Program Requirements
Applicants interested in applying as a substitute teacher should have a valid email address and a clean background history to be verified through a fingerprint background check required by the State of Michigan, to be eligible to work in a Michigan Public School District. The cost for fingerprinting is approximately $65.
